A Whole New Gear: Walk through our design process for a mock bike shop
Project completed for INFSCI User-Centered Design under the guidance of Josh Sager.
Background
A Whole New Gear is a factitious bike shop that offers new and used bikes and bicycle accessories. The owners believe that everyone needs an affordable transportation option, and they are dedicated to allowing customers to obtain quality bikes at reasonable prices. To help with their cause of serving the community, the shop offers a program where those who cannot afford bicycles can earn one by trading hours of volunteer time at the shop.
Number one goal: Get the bicycles to those who need them.
Persona and Scenario Creation
In a team of three people, I worked to create four user personas, and four possible user scenarios to go with those personas. We followed through on the execution of one user story revolving around a woman named Victoria looking for a specialized bike.
We wanted to create a scenario that honored her motivations, as well as her limitations. We presented a scenario where she came upon A Whole New Gear by initially looking to buy a new or used bike, and upon realizing they’re too expensive, moving towards the volunteer for a bike option. This aligns Victoria with her goal of getting a new bike, and A Whole New Gear’s number one goal of getting bikes to those who need them.
Wireframing and Prototyping
After some iteration with wireframes, and feedback in user testing, we created the final working prototype in Figma that we can use to follow Victoria’s journey.
Because this was a factitious company, we were free to create our own unique branding for A Whole New Gear. Here we have our Style Guide, including colors, typography, an adjective cloud, a logo, and images.
